Зијад Џафић је рођен 26.08.1970. године у Грачаници, где је завршио основну и средњу школу. Дипломирао је, магистрирао и докторирао на Економском факултету Универзитета у Тузли. Испред Економског факултета Универзитета у Тузли боравио је на специјализацији из области економских наука на Универзитету у Болоњи (Италија), школске 1996/97 године. У Болоњи је учествовао у свим иницијативама које је организовао „Europe and Balkans International Network“, и сарађивао у организацији конгреса и округлих столова. На Економском факултету у Тузли биран је у наставничка звања, од асистента до ванредног професора. На истом факултету врши дужност продекана за научно-истраживачки рад. До сада је обавио низ студијских посјета другим универзитетима у иностранству, од којих су најзначајнији: University of Bologna (Италија), University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki (Грчка), The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies and Joint Vienna Institute Residence, Беч, Аустрија,  University of Leoben, Аустрија. На Економском факултету у Брчком предаје Микроекономију. До сада је објавио преко 50 научних и стручних радова у земљи и иностранству, као и 3 уџбеника, те учествовао у 8 научно-истраживачких пројеката. Активно говори италијански и енглески језик.
